We are back from the 21st Asia Nat Cat & Climate Change Conference in Bangkok! Our CEO Paige Roepers had the opportunity to connect with re(insurers) and brokers in the region and regional directors of the World Meteorological Organization, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) who are at the forefront of coordinating public and private sector financing and regional risk pools. There is an immense opportunity for collaboration and risk-based financing with a huge protection gap, increasing severity and frequency of nat cat events, and rising affordability and education.

Here’s what we learned:

  • 72% of attendees did not feel confident pricing flood risk within the coastal zone.
  • Outdated or missing data, underestimating losses and litmited mitigation potential are theta 3 biggest challenges in regards to underwriing, broking or advising on coastal flooding.
